The story so far - choosing an idea

As it sits right now, I launched my MVP six months ago and just pushed out into public beta a major update with most of the features that form a basis for my product. I want to step back in time a bit to when and why I chose to build the business I built.

My business, Setwerks.com is built on a foundation of practical experience and knowledge that was accumulated over years of planning and managing films, big and small. I found that we were using an increasingly large number of services and products to get this done. What I wanted was a tool that would aggregate all of those functions and let my productions live in the same place, not require our people to learn multiple software packages in order to work on our film. As it happens, I have a lesser background in web development, having been involved in various projects since 2003. So, I found myself wanting to solve a problem for people like me.

I have a passion for making films and for enabling people to make films. I probably would have given up by now, if I didn't know exactly what I want from experience and if I didn't believe it was a worthwhile goal that would fufill one of my main passions. Keep that in mind when starting an idea-if you don't know the game and you don't love the game, your commitment might wane. Personally, I'm in it for the long haul. My family seem surprised when I say the goal isn't money for me. It isn't. It's about helping people make films. If I can help a few people make their film, get their perspective into the world a little better than before, I'll be happy. I'm not looking for a unicorn, I'm in a very niche, dark corner of a niche market. I'm fine with it. Where are you?
